Orpington and District Archaeological Society Open Day 2024

Orpington and District Archaeological Societyis having an open day at the Fordcroft Romano-British Bathhouse and Anglo-Saxon Cemetery in St Mary Cray.

The event will be held on Sunday 21st July 2024 from 11am to 12.30pm and 1.30pm to 4pm. Visitors can see the Romano-British bathhouse and follow a trail around the site. ODAS members will be available to talk about archaeology in the local area. There will also be displays and a bookstall at Coronation Hall in Fordcroft Road.

The Orpington and District Archaeological Society (ODAS) is a registered charity that was founded in 1975. The group carries out archaeological research in the local area, and has worked on excavations at the Roman bathhouse and Anglo-Saxon cemetery in St Mary Cray.

The bathhouse is the remains of a small farmstead that was in use from around AD 270 to AD 400. The Anglo-Saxon cemetery is located to the north and east of the bathhouse and was in use between the mid-fifth and sixth centuries.

The open day is a free event, although donations are welcome. Buses 51, 273 and R11 all stop near the site.
