This unique building built in 1899 was traditionally a family home to the Whyte family; all gifted musicians in 1925 the family acquired the services of architect Evelyn Hellicar to build the Music room for the four daughters. Many musicians have since played at Ripley including David Bowie, the Chilingirian Quartet and even Elgar. Today they welcome musicians and music students to perform in this very room. They also hire their premises for art exhibitions, art classes, weddings and private functions as well as educational and leisure activities.

"We’ve sensitively restored some of the outstanding original design features, from the four giant fluted concrete columns clad in green marble, to the stone architrave and fireplaces. The renovation includes preserving the wood panelling in the old Courthouse and three large stained-glass windows in the former old Council Chambers. We’ve transformed two underground cells from the Magistrates’ Court days and repurposed them into an office and meeting room and portraits of all the former Bromley mayors are now on display in the grand entrance.

Orpington Village Hall Trust (entry added 16/2/22)
The site was reopened in 2010, after a two year regeneration project, and the halls can now be found on the first floor of a beautifully refurbished commercial and residential complex. The halls are a community facility for use by local people and businesses; they are managed by a charitable trust and all income from hiring out the halls goes towards managing and maintaining them. At the moment there are still some restrictions as to functions that can be accepted and numbers that can be accommodated due to COVID 19 (please note, this information was accurate as of 16/2/22).

There are 25 chairs and 4 tressle table available for use and can be used for smaller parties, private meetings and also as an exercise studio. Please note this hall is not big enough for a bouncy castle of any size.
